Inferiority and Living Forever

May 31, 2008

I kind of forgot to update in awhile.  Anyways.

I had a recital at Carnegie today and before my recital there was a competition for finalists of an international competition held by the same group.  Holy crap.  That’s the only thing I can say.  I feel like a complete noob now after listening to some of the extraordinary playing and pieces that were performed.  At least now I have inspiration…

I was reading an article in a tech magazine (IEEE Spectrum – it’s actually my dad’s) that I get and it mentioned how one day people may be able to upload their mind and personalities onto a computer and therefore be able to live forever.  The sentence baffled me when I read it because it’s just such a scary thought.  Is technology really growing at that fast of a rate that that could be possible soon?  Also, would that be a good idea?  And how would it work?  Personally I would rather just live my life and die than have my mind uploaded to a machine where who knows what could be done with it.  Technology is helping make such advances in our lives, but when is enough enough?

Stuff and More Stuff

May 17, 2008

I saw Prince Caspian yesterday and let me tell you it is pretty darn good.  It followed the book pretty well and the battles were very nicely done.  They managed to pull a lot out of a book where about half of it is backstory.  I’m impressed.  Reepicheep was freaking awesome =D  I’m very excited to watch the next two movies they’re making – Voyage of the Dawn Treader and then The Silver Chair.  I wish they’d make The Last Battle too but eh, two’s good enough.

When I got home I was in such a Narnia mood that I researched a bit and found lots of commentary on the books and their religious parallels.  I never really notice religious parallels since, well, I’m athiest.  I just find it interesting to read up on them, though I’m not advocating that religious parallels are wrong.  I don’t get why people make such a fuss if some books have some plotlines similar to religion.  I guess I’ll go look that up too…

I’m FREE

May 12, 2008

AP Bio was today, so now I’m officially free of AP exams and massive amounts of studying time.  YES!  The Bio exam was actually easier than I thought it’d be, so I think I did okay.

So there was a new spoiler out for Brisingr today.  I like the spoilers but I think Paolini’s overdoing it a bit with book propaganda.  I mean the fans usually get enough hype out of the title, book art, and release date (at least that’s how it was for Harry Potter).  Maybe one spoiler would be enough, but giving out bits and pieces like this seems like an excuse to keep hype going, although if you wrote good books hype already should be in place for it and spoilers wouldn’t be needed.  But anyway, apparently Eragon meets a new enemy and it’s someone who laughs a lot.  The first thing I thought of when I heard this was “oh god Eragon meets the Joker.”  I don’t know.  Who laughs a lot in Inheritance?  I’ll have to reread…

APCSA: General Thought

May 6, 2008

I took the AP Comp Sci A test today (my school doesn’t have an AB curriculum class darn it). I’m not supposed to talk about test questions, but I do believe I can give a general gist about what I thought of it.  Overall I felt that it was a pretty decent test that covered the information that was supposed to be learned very well.  That’s all I can say for now – I might give a more detailed post on the free response questions in 48 hours (that’s when I’m allowed to talk about them o_O) for anyone who cares. Well that’s one AP test down and one more to go…and the next one will not go very well. Ahh bio.

On the brighter side, I have free days in Comp Sci for the next two days. Woo.

Just to keep up blog post liveliness

I’m still alive.

I need to write articles for many places.

I need to do homework.

I need to study.
