About Me

My name is Jamie C and I’m currently 16 years old.  I’m a female residing in the lovely eastern state of New Jersey in the USofA.  My ethinicity is pretty simple – 100% Chinese.  English is my second language, although I’m proud to say I can speak it fluently without a hint of my Asian background.  I’m a junior in high school, meaning I get to study my arse off for the grand old SATs/PSATs as well as two AP classes and a handful of Honors ones.  I’m starting to put more attention into school now after I realized at the end of my sophomore year that I had a chance of being the valedictorian.  I’m also a rather shy individual, both offline and online.  If you want to get to know me well, you’ll have to put in a lot of effort to get me to open up.

When I’m not doing work for school I’m usually on the computer.  I’ve been interested in computer programming and web design ever since I was in third grade, and that’s the field of work in which I want to pursue.  Last year I took APCS AB in which I studied Java.  I have also learned HTML and bits of Javascript on my own in the past three years.  I plan to learn PHP, C++, and how to use MySQL databases before I graduate high school.  For the last few years I’ve also done a little bit of graphics design.  I’m not very good, but I can make nice sigs if that counts for anything.  I plan to go to either MIT or Carnegie Mellon and major in computer science while getting a minor in either freelance writing or piano performance (haven’t decided yet).

I am a big fan of reading and writing.  I’ve been an avid reader ever since I could read English.  My main genre of reading is fiction – fantasy to be more precise.  A handful of my favorite authors include Tamora Pierce, JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, Stephen King, Philip Pullman, and Jonathan Stroud.  I didn’t start writing anything until about halfway through middle school when I learned how to actually write well.  When I was younger I mostly wrote random fantasy one-timers but more recently I’ve started going into some journalism (while still writing some fiction one-timers).  I’m still working on making my writing unique, and I have horrible writer’s block problems most of the time.

As for piano, that’s probably the third biggest thing in my life after school and computers.  I started playing piano when I was five, so it’s been stuck with me for ten years now.  I currently study piano in Princeton, which is where my teacher lives (NOT the university).  I’ve won first place in a state competition twice (for my respective age group) and won a bunch of other competitions that I’m currently too lazy to find and list.  I’ve also performed in a variety of areas, some of the more notable ones being Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall (four times I think now) and Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center.  Besides all the fancy schmancy jumbo I also occasionally accompany my school’s choir.  My favorite type of music is impressionistic, and some of my favorite composers are Liszt, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, and late Beethoven.

While I’m on the topic of music, aside from piano I like to listen to rock, specifically bands such as Linkin Park, Switchfoot, Three Days Grace, 30 Seconds to Mars, etc.  I also like power metal, such as Dragonforce and Rhapsody of Fire, and instrumental rock/metal, such as An Endless Sporadic, Explosions in the Sky, and By the End of Tonight (thanks to Rune Beast/Dan for introducing me to them).

Moving on to other things, I’m a big gamer, to put it bluntly.  I play a lot of handheld console games, specifically GBA and DS games.  I do not own a DS – all the games I play for it are ROM’s for an emulator.  I also have an N64 emulator which I have a few ROM’s for, as well as a Gamecube which I don’t play too frequently.  My biggest gaming area is MMORPG gaming.  I am a big fan of Runescape and have played it for nearly four years now.  I am currently going for 99 fishing, which I plan to achieve sometime in the middle of 2009.  After that will come 99 Firemaking and Cooking …eventually.  You can find me on RS under the alias Bluebrisingr (which is my main online alias, the other two being Auremora or Rhialla).  A list of other MMORPG’s I’m on are as follows:

I do a bunch of other things online besides gaming though.  I’ve been an IRC chatter for five years now, the two main servers I go on being Mugglenet Chat and Shurtugal Chat (in which I’m a Network Administrator).  I’m pretty adept at IRC scripting, and for a sample of some of my scripts see my scripts page on this blog.  I also do some content work and write articles for a Runescape fansite called RSBANDB, and moderate Shurtugal.com’s wiki (as well as their chat).

Last thing about me is that I’m an anime freak.  I am a huge Bleach fan, especially of Hitsugaya/Karin and Yoruichi/Soi Fon pairings.  I also watch Naruto (though I’ve fallen badly behind on episodes), Death Note, Elfen Lied, Ouran Host Club, and a little bit of Full Metal Alchemist.  My main obsession is Bleach though.  I do not read manga, though I have read a few Bleach manga’s online (again, huge Bleach freak).

Oh and if you’re wondering if I do anything away from the computer besides school or piano, I do enjoy swimming a lot.
