Just A Little URL

October 23, 2009

I’d just like to share the link to a brilliant satire written by my friend Devon:

A Modern Modest Proposal

My favorite tidbits:

“These people do not want to assimilate and live in harmony with native Americans.”

“I believe an appropriate punishment for breaking the law would be cutting the offender’s tongue out of his mouth; this will certainly provide motivation for others to follow it.”

A Runescape Muser: Revival!

October 12, 2009

I’m reviving my Runescape blog, yet again, though I intend for it to be permanent this time.  New article: Attempting Quests Co-Op

Triond Article

January 11, 2009

I randomly submitted one of my articles I had written for my school newspaper to Triond and it magically got accepted.  I thought it’d get rejected for common content or something but surprisingly it didn’t!  Anyway, I’d really appreciate it if you all went to take a peek at my article about Conquering Writer’s Block and give me feedback on how it is. Thanks!

A Sandbox Eulogy and A Game You Need to Get

August 12, 2008

When I read Brad’s blog post about potentially removing the Sandbox, I thought of it as a resolution that was eventually coming but still a good time away. I didn’t think it would happen a few weeks after that post. So it came as a bit of a shock when I saw an announcement on the forums about the Sandbox and even more of a shock when I saw it was removed, since I had originally thought there would just be stricter rules placed on it or something.

I’m not advocating or challenging the Sandbox. It once was a good place. I remember back when I first discovered the forums around mid 2005, one of the reasons I stayed around a little was to laugh at some of the threads in the Sandbox. When I started regularly visiting the forums, I saw the Sandbox as a place to just hang out and talk about whatever came to your mind without having to worry about getting in trouble. It wasn’t like those spam forums other places have that are filled with forum games and quote pyramids and stupid topics. The Sandbox actually made you occasionally think and more than occasionally laugh. It was one of those simple things that was innovative, something BNB has been known for.

But, as time went on, the laughs came less and the face palming and annoyance came more. The Sandbox slowly became dubbed the Spambox around 2007. I could guess what half the topics in there would be about whenever I visited the forums, and the same goes for the posts. I still liked the place, but it wasn’t the same, especially since many of the people who kept it the Sandbox had left and were now replaced with people making it the Spambox. And now here we are today.

I’ll miss having a place where I can freely do/say whatever I want, but oh well. It’s true that everything discussed in the Sandbox that was of value can be discussed in another forum, so that won’t be anything big.

Well the blame has to lie somewhere, and I feel like pointing fingers so I’ll point my finger at …Jagex! Thank you Jagex for successfully making Runescape appeal to younger audiences, thus resulting in a generally younger age of people visiting fan forums and bringing with them their generally younger minds. Hey it’s true, I feel old around BNB and I sure as hell am not yet.

In the long run, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” The famous quote by Shane seems fitting to end my Sandbox discussion here. The Sandbox is gone and there’s nothing we can do about it, but people will adapt and adjust and things will stay the same for awhile. And if you’re going to leave the forums just because the Sandbox is gone, then good please leave because you don’t see the true quality of the forums. Go join UMD-land.

RIP RSBANDB Forums Sandbox: 9/9/04 (?) – 8/12/08

ANYWAY. To change the topic, I just found what seems like the best DS game I have ever played. It’s called Lunar Knights, and if you want a link to the ROM just leave a comment. I haven’t played it a lot, so I’m at the end (I think) of chapter one. The game has a great combat system, combining “tap-a-button-for-attacking-or-shielding” type combat with a nice little space TPS. That, along with some nice anime-style cut scenes and what seems like a good storyline, is making it soar on my list of great DS games.

Wtf RuneBeest (and other stuff)

March 8, 2008

My blog is not “one with nature.”  I plan on changing the banner …eventually.

I was playing a bit of Funorb today out of pure boredom and I have to say, I got more bored.  The concept of the games have potential but I don’t know, they just don’t appeal to me.  Star Cannon was interesting except the only thing you have to look forward to in the game is seeing what new lasers you’ll get.  The miner game bored me after about 2 minutes (I couldn’t get back up to my starting point haha.)  Arcanists had a rather boring gameplay; your good old angle-and-shoot game only gets so fun.  Those were the only three I played before I got off.  Hopefully better games will come out soon.

I just rewatched all three Lord of the Rings movies again and I have suddenly rediscovered my love for the series.  I spent all of today looking through fansites, signing up on forums, and reading as much as I could of the Silmarillion.  Ahh, the good old days.  It’s sad school’s taken my mind away from all the things I used to be so into.

Boring Crap

February 25, 2008

I wonder who reads this blog anyway.  Oh well, it’s a nice thing for me to go back through and see what I did way back when (even though several months isn’t way back when, but it’ll pick up eventually).

There’s been too much stuff about B&B.  People being immature, drama, all that fun stuff.  I don’t really care much for any of it.  I keep what I think in my head, I post where interesting, and I stay on the sidelines of whatever’s going on unless I’m forced in (which most likely won’t happen).  There’s really only one thing I can: stay out of the sandbox.  It’s stupid really, why can’t people just grow up and be more mature?

Anyway, I’ve been working a bit on Java programs for school and learning Javascript for web design on my own.   I gained a few levels on Runescape; I think my overall’s 767 or 768 now.  I’m planning to send in money for members over the summer because I really want to experience it (and then Connor/RuneBeest will shut up).  I went to a friend’s sweet 16 this weekend which was fun because I haven’t seen her in about half a year.  And as usual there’s school …good old, life-sucking, time-using, space-filling school.  Blah.

Oh yea: I love the new B&B layout.

For the Sake of Blog Liveliness

February 14, 2008

New post.  Anyway, I had a snow day today (even though yesterday was the day it snowed and today it just rained…our school board needs to get their mind straight) so I pretty much sat around and did nothing.  I played a bit of RS and got 43 smithing.  Most of the time today was spent watching Smosh/catching up on anime’s.  The past week or so has been pretty dull offline with school and stuff.  Online there was a bunch of Runescape clan drama (that’s now resolved) and fun things like that.

I need ideas for an R!Informer monthly column that isn’t P2P mandatory BESIDES Recommended MMORPG (which I swear I will get back to).  My mind has been fuzzy on the creativity side lately.

Guh

February 6, 2008

So I’ve been continuously getting Myspace comments from a friend’s profile.  Yes, I know I’ve ranted about Myspace before and I’m a hypocrite for using it (but I assure you mine has nothing of the crap I complain about).  Anyway, I find out most of these comments are just those spam comments that show someone’s clearly gotten their profile infected.  Now I mean, come on.  Is it really that hard to learn to NOT click those bulletins or comments that say “OMG LIEK THERE’S THIS AMAAZING GUCCI PURSE THAT I LIEK GOT FOR LIEK PHR33 AND IF U CLICK HEER U CAN GET IT TOO@@@@@”?  Apparently so.  It’s completely annoying to have to go through and delete spam comments + block.  Just grow a brain already and stop clicking the damn ad’s.  Then again, not many people in my grade have brains, unfortunately.

Online Drama Blows

November 26, 2007

I hate it. I don’t see why it’s needed because ffs, it’s just the INTERNET.

The Runescape clan I’m in got in a big fuss over another clan who wanted to war us because they were flaming us when in all honesty it was one of our members who started the flaming – the other clan just took the flaming to an unneeded extent by calling us noobs and pussies because we didn’t want to do a full-out rune war. That’s solved now though.

Meanwhile, our clan itself had some problems. One of our old Council members apparently stole a Rune G plate from the bank and word got out. People were also complaining about him flaming others and abusing his powers. This carried on for a bit before he got removed from the Council. Some of this still carries on.

Then we found out that one of the leaders of the clan who wanted to war us had registered an account on our forums, came to a few of our events, and spied on us. Then we all got the notion that OMGeverynewmemberhastobeaspy and there was this spy rampage for a few days. It was unneeded. The only reason that other guy got in was because our application was a bit too leniant. Fixed now.

And then yesterday on the IRC chat I admin, the main network admin left because he got word that one of the users was backtalking him. He also server banned that certain user. However, the server ban was removed and that user gave logs of the network admin apologizing to him. Meanwhile, two other people on the server are insisting that the user’s ban stay on and pushing the mods to ban him. They did shut up later on and I got word from the network admin that he actually did leave.

Guh. It’s driving me nuts tbh. I also need better post categories…oh well. Sorry if this post was confusing – I tried not to name any names.

Kelsey please completely pwn Beastialityface and Farmingnub in the next skotm. :D
